In conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Georges E. Fouron, professor of education at the State University of New York at Stonybrook, will give a talk titled The Influence of the Haitian Revolution on Revolutionary Movements in the 19th and 20th Centuries and Beyond at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in the Keck Classroom (G52) of Pettengill Hall. The public is invited to attend the lecture, sponsored by the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Department of Anthropology, the Division of Social Sciences and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day planning committee, free of charge.

Fouron’s research interests include migration, transnationalism, sociolinguistics and bilingual education. A widely published scholar, he is the co-author with Nina Glick Schiller of Georges Woke Up Laughing: Long-distance Nationalism and the Search for Home (Duke University Press, 2001), a portrait of the Haitian experience of migration to the United States.
