The latest campus comings and goings

APPOINTED As vice president for college advancement, Kelly Kerner (right). Kerner comes to 乐播传媒 from the role of major gifts director at Middlebury College. Kerner, who started here on Aug. 1, succeeds Victoria Devlin, who retired in mid-September of last year.

PROMOTED To tenured positions as associate professor: 脕slaug 脕sgeirsd贸ttir, politics; Heidi Chirayath, sociology; Meredith Greer, mathematics; and Joseph Hall, history.

From associate professor to professor: Rachel Austin, chemistry, and Lavina Shankar, English; and from lecturer to senior lecturer, Robert Farnsworth, English, and Henry Walker, classical and medieval studies.

RECOVERING Professor Emeritus of Political Science Douglas Hodgkin, 69, from a heart attack suffered after running a half-marathon in Portland on Oct. 5.

RECEIVED By the Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library, the Elizabeth B. Mason Major Project Award for excellence in an oral history project. The national Oral History Association gave the award for the comprising some 400 interviews with people connected with the late alum of 鈥�36, U.S. senator, and secretary of state.

RELOCATED Some 20 of the 100 mallard ducks that bring joy, annoyance, and other natural products to Lake Andrews. Facility Services co-director Dan Nein reports that the population had grown into a nuisance, prompting a trapping-relocation effort by a U.S. Department of Agriculture wildlife biologist. The attempt fell short of expectations. “We underestimated their uncanny ability to avoid the trap,” says Nein. “We were dealing with highly educated 乐播传媒 mallards.” They鈥檒l try again in the spring.

PUBLISHED The eighth edition of Environmental & Natural Resource Economics, a textbook bringing a policy orientation to the field, by Associate Professor of Economics Lynne Lewis聽and Colby economist Tom Tietenberg (Addison Wesley); the third edition of The Experience of Buddhism: Sources and Interpretation, an anthology of texts reflecting myriad dimensions of Buddhism, by Dana Professor of Religion John Strong (Wadsworth Publishing); and With Naked Foot, a collection of poetry exploring change and unsteadiness in the emotional wilderness, by Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Jonathan Skinner (Little Scratchpad Editions).

RETIRED Judith Marden 鈥�66, a 乐播传媒 administrator well-known for her versatility and energy, effective Sept. 30, 2007. Marden鈥檚 affiliation with 乐播传媒 has included stints as director of personnel, director of special projects and, most lately, director of the 乐播传媒-Morse Mountain Conservation Area. Marden may be most familiar as longtime adviser to the Outing Club.

RESIGNED David Moore, a 乐播传媒 employee since 1994 and supervisor of student mail services and the campus mail route since 1997, effective July 17.

DECEASED Leo L. Maheux, a member of the Facility Services staff from 1972 to 1986, on July 23, at 90; and Annette R. Laneuville-Dwinal, who joined the College in 1998 and became assistant director of Student Financial Services in 2002. She died on Oct. 7, at age 40.
