Purposeful work internships through and funded by Looking Glass Investments Fan Dong ë17 of Beijing with a double major in economics and politics and economics major Michael Varner í17 of Chelsea, Mich., interning with Looking Glass Investments supervised by Assistant Professor of Economics Nathan Teft. The office is located in the Fort Andross Mill Business Center in Brunswick, in Suite 216 at 14 Maine St, Brunswick. Teft is a member and chief economist of the firm. ìItís a consulting activity,î he says. He is in charge of the Brunswick office. ìWe do the predictive analytics., in other words using statistical methods, otherwise know as econometrics, machine learning, artificial intelligence to basically assess risk for the business.î And youíre trying to earn money? ìYes. Itís for profit.î ìWhat makes it interesting to me is the opportunity to use lots of new and interesting methods to try and solve the problems that weíre working on. I enjoy the methods part and learning new tools and new software languages. What do you guys thinks?î Mike: ìWell, its directly related to the class ìBig Data and Economicsî that we both took last semester which you taught. We used a lot of the same methods in class that we do here. Itís interesting, weíve transitioned from an academic setting to a corporate setting, to a business.î NT: ìItís a real application of many of the tools weíve learned in econometrics and statistics, and we have a lot of latitude to do what we want, what we think is best, which is great.î ìWe operate in the online marketplace lending space. This is typically Silicon Valley startups. You call them alternative lenders, I guess. Back to ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Weekend at a variety of locations on campus, including Pettengill Hall, where ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ alumni were honored with an awards presentation and a dessert reception, the registration desk in the Library Well, and the Bardwell Street Tent, where seniors over 21 and alumni enjoyed a beer garden and food.ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ defeated Bowdoin 21-14 at the Alumni Big Game Saturday, today, Oct. 15, 2022, and the Garcelon Field crowd went wild.
