If you\u2019re interested in a group, visit their booth at the Activities Fair in the fall, look for posters announcing their meetings, or check the listings in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Today &#8211; the daily electronic campus newsletter, or ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Engage. Feel free to attend an organization\u2019s meetings; they\u2019re always looking for members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½<strong>&nbsp;Public Health Initiative (PHI)<\/strong>&nbsp;provides students with an opportunity to engage in public health outreach both on the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ campus and in the surrounding area. PHI offers opportunities to volunteer at a local free clinic, engage in public health awareness campaigns, and invites guest speakers to campus. Contact:&nbsp;Margo Danahy&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kirsten Farhm&nbsp;(Co-Presidents).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/emergency-medical-services\/\"><strong>ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Emergency Medical Services<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;(EMS)<\/strong>&nbsp;is a Maine licensed EMS service that provides emergency care to the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College community. All members are volunteers that have completed the Emergency Medical Technician course. Through paid internships specifically designated for ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ students and through positions independently secured by students, participants in the Purposeful Work Internship Program will test their passions, build their skills, develop their networks, reflect on their learnings, and connect their experiences on and off campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Summer Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following is a list of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/purposeful-work\/gaining-experience-while-on-campus\/pre-health-summer-enrichment-programs\/\">summer enrichment opportunities<\/a>, organized by state, for students from underrepresented populations, disadvantaged backgrounds, and\/or who identify as BIPOC. These programs provide a supportive environment in which to enhance your preparation for a career in medicine, dental medicine, research, and other health-related fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/purposeful-work\/summer-opportunities-for-international-students-interested-in-science-healthcare\/\">separate list of programs<\/a>&nbsp;is available for international students searching for similar opportunities in science and healthcare without citizenship requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the following is a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/purposeful-work\/?page_id=18112&amp;preview=true\">&nbsp;list of opportunities<\/a>&nbsp;that do not target a specific population of students. Many institutions and organizations offer summer programs that incorporate clinical or research experiences, and many of these programs provide generous stipends to participants. You may wish to include these programs in your search.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\" id=\"9fcc3cef-cb95-46cd-af83-c30e40a0fc46\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"9fcc3cef-cb95-46cd-af83-c30e40a0fc46\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Job Shadows<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\" id=\"9fcc3cef-cb95-46cd-af83-c30e40a0fc46\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/purposeful-work\/job-shadow\/\">Purposeful Work Job Shadow Program<\/a>&nbsp;involves a partnership between the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Center for Purposeful Work and ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ alumni and parents, as well as local employers, from a diverse range of industries and locations. Students from all four class years may apply to these job shadows during the Fall semester.
