Winter Carnival Event Schedule. (Shenny & Owen)
- 02/05 – Box-sledding on Mt. David.
  - Lounge in 280 booked for decorating.
- 02/06 – Campstove Iron Chef.
  - Working on the food order & borrowing stoves from AESOP.
- 02/07 – Club Nordic Collab Ski Race.
  - Using supplies from the E-Room, meet there @ 4:00 if you do not have your own gear.
- 02/08 – Community Event w/ Harward Center.
  - Fill out the Google Form from lmissbrenner@bates.edu if interested in helping out!
- 02/09 – Torch Run & Puddle Jump.
  - A Google Form will be coming out to sign up for volunteer shifts. (Shenny)
- 02/10 – Lost Valley Takeover.

Introductions (Shenny & Owen)
Winter Carnival (Shenny)
- February 5-10th.
  - Mon– Boxsledding.
  - Tues– Campstove iron chef.
  - Wed– Collaboration w/ Club Nordic (relay for all levels).
  - Thurs– Community event.
  - Fri– Torch runs from the statehouse to the puddle → Puddle Jump
- WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE PUDDLE JUMP!!! (Owen)
  - A Google Form will be sent out to sign up.
- Community event. (Lili)
  - We are using the Halloween trick-or-treating event as inspiration. This will be on Alumni, doing Winter activities, and inviting people from the community.
Upcoming Trips (Shenny)
- More Winter-focused trips– reach out to Adam (Winter Sports Head Trip Leader) if you are a trip leader interested in leading a trip. (aoppenheimer@bates.edu)
- Ideas from trip leaders.
  - Claire– Intro nordic trips.
  - Ethan– Intro to the backcountry.
  - David– Trip to view the eclipse this Spring.
- General Ideas.
  - Snowshoeing, sledding, rock climbing, shuttles to ski areas, hockey on the puddle, curling, building an igloo then sleeping in it, intro to ice fishing.
- Planned Trips.
  - Mon-Wed February Break– Nordic hut trip through Flagstaff Lake (for all levels).
  - Mountain Film Festival – February 15, 2024.
  - Trip leader training this Spring if anyone is interested in leading trips next year.
ETL tests (Ethan)
- For higher education, there are new guidelines for trip leaders from the State of Maine. There is a special committee working with �ֲ��ý, and if you are a trip leader now you need to take the ETL test to receive a permit (valid for 5 years). This is new and works in tandem with the �ֲ��ý trip leader curriculum.
- Do you need to pay for the exam? (Lili)
  - No, it is all covered. (Ethan)

  - January 23– 6-7:30
  - February 2– 1-2:30

Updates:
- Heidi– needs someone to take over outdoor days at Montello next semester. Reach out to the BOC if interested.
- Ethan/Ava- want to start running clinics in the E-Room next semester.
  - Adjusted hours for next semester Mon-Thurs-Fri.
Winter Carnival:
- Shenny– had a meeting with campus life about the Winter Carnival February 5-10.
- Concrete Events: Lost Valley Takeover and Puddle Jump
- Potential events: sledding, ice skating, whisper-light iron chef, ski jump (shred club), snowball fight, torch run (a 40-year tradition from the state house to here), igloo.��
- Favorites among leadership: torchlight run (a collaboration with the run club), Rail Jam (shred club), toboggan races (box sleds), hot coco/sledding with kids from the community.
  - Lili: Could reach out to Darby about community stuff for Winter Carnival and could reach out about making sledding an event in collaboration with intramural.
- Ethan: Should we create a Winter Carnival sub-committee?

Film Festival:
- Mountain Film– students can pay for a playlist of short films, and host a 1-2 hour event to watch the films.

- High expense but if we charge a small fee for people outside the college it could be doable.

Check-ins.
- Hayden- canoe trailers should be back up and running soon.
- Colby- as water sport season ends, will become the interim snow sports leader.
- Sam- looking for a trip leader that is van certified for Saturday, October 14 from 12-4.
- Colby- wants to get one more backpacking trip in before Winter, if possible.��
- Hedi- We need to make sure that at the end of the semester, we reach out to Montello and set up a nature club, and that we reach out to the Nordic Ski Association to help with trail work sometime this semester (could possibly be turned into a trail running trip).��
- Mitchel- AMC Head of Advancement wants to look at extending the BOC’s relationship with the AMC.��
- Shenny- Acadia over October break.
OPM Job opening (Mitchel’s current position).
- Apply on Handshake.
Sheets for trips.
- A checklist that makes sure everyone knows the trip name, trip date, # of participants, if a van is rented or not, if a van has been returned, if meal replacement has been ordered, and a link to a photo album.
  - This will keep everything organized and everyone on the same page, especially as more non-head trip leaders start to lead more trips and the BOC expands.
Merch.
- Fleeces.
- T-shirts.
- Hats.
- 5 panel.
Equity and inclusion.
- Setting up relationships with identity-based clubs.
- Reaching out to the OIE to advertise trips.
- Change the perception of the club- not a clicky friend group.
- Possible identity-based trips. (Issue with leaders for these trips and what would be good options)
- Encourage leaders of identity-based clubs to become leaders within the BOC.
- Julia- possible women’s affinity/disability group joint trip.

Updates.
- Colby– A lot of water sports trips coming up, some sunrise paddles as well as a Moosehead trip the weekend of Sept. 29-Oct. 1.��
- Ethan– Info on the IKON Passes will go out in an email through �ֲ��ý Engage soon.��
- Colby– Katahdin trip went well, but not enough inclusion of the trip leaders in the planning. However, this was the first big trip within turnover of leadership so it is just an important note moving forward.
  - Maybe meet with leaders more frequently, and share all details about the trip. Maybe a full meeting before every trip with the leaders?
  - **Standardizing what trip leaders are responsible for e.g. food, vans, etc.
- Shenny– A lot of great trips going out, and people are excited so let’s keep up the energy and communication.
  - Working on standardizing job descriptions and organizing trip leader standards, checklists, and responsibilities that are required for everyone. Maybe putting this on the website under “Trip Leader Corner”.
- Nathaniel– E-Room boards have been constantly checked out which is super exciting. The first trip is this Friday, September 29th.��
  - Working to figure out a balance between having boards for trips and renting them out. E-Room discussion**.
  - More fins, leashes, boards- enough to run trips.
- Julia– �ֲ��ý and Bowdoin Outing Club
  - Mac and Cheese at Morse Mountain.

Introductions.
Calendar of planned trips. (Mitchel)
- On the shared Google Drive.
- If anyone is interested in leading any already planned trips/planning their own reach out to Shenny/Mitchel.
The new meeting room is in Chase Hall not on Campus Ave. (Mitchel)
The first official BOC meeting is on Wednesday, September, 13th from 7:30-8:30. (Shenny)
- Planning on continuing biweekly meetings switching on and off with full club and leadership meetings. (Mitchel)
Bridge training for AESOP/BOC Leaders is being planned by Catie, details coming soon.

Spring Break Acadia Trip. (David)
- Three different groups all camping at the same site. This will be in three different trip sections on �ֲ��ý Engage.
  - 2-3 leaders per group.
  - 3-4 sites.
- April 22, 23, 24.
- 4-5 vans.
  - Vans for gear and people. One for each group and then one or two for gear.��
- Intro trip- Gorham Mountain Loop.
- Advanced- Beehive and Champlain Loop trail.
- Biking Trip- Leave right from the rental place. (Leftover bikes from an unused AESOP trip).
- All groups will camp together and can eat, explore, and do other activities together. (A lot of freedom with multiple levels of outdoor experience!!!!)
- Looking for trip leaders!!!- let David know if interested. (dnimura@bates.edu)
Any BOC leaders that have put in time and effort throughout the year for the BOC have spots on the end-of-the-year BOC Rafting Trip if they want. If you are interested, let Catie know- send her a text or an email.��
Community Liasion. (Heidi)
- Volunteering to help with outdoor programs in Lewiston Elementary Schools. Signups are sent out to BOC leaders through email. Could volunteer for one or several days- as much as you would like if interested!
- Also, possible volunteer opportunities at LHS for an outdoor class if interested. Heidi can reach out when these opportunities arise- if interested or have questions send her an email! (hnydam@bates.edu)
- AT section upkeep. Someone from the AT is going to come to a meeting to teach the BOC about their responsibilities. During the early Short Term- vans will go out to the section to maintain it.��
Gear For Trips. (Ava)
- Singular or group responsibility?
  - Finding ways to make gear use more organized for trips. A better idea of who is using what.
- Ideas for things the E-Room needs.
  - Cooking gear for larger camping trips.
  - Surfing stuff.
  - More nordic boot sizes.

- If Nathan and Liina can think of dates for the rest of the year, please share them with Catie.

Culter Coast Backpacking. (Mitchel)
- May 6th-7th.

- Trying to plan a lot of fun, easy, and casual trips that include a fun mix of activities and skill levels.

- Full-month van rental is possible for Short Term.
- Possible on-campus events that could be easy to attend and put together.
  - Example: Hammocking on Mt. David or a Bonfire.
- Whitewater Rafting + Short-Term Preview.
- Possibly reserving the Morse Mountain Cabin for a surfing trip.
- April “how to build a fire” seminar- possibly at the Lean-to.
- Lost Valley takeover rescheduled. March 18, 2023.
- EVO trip on March 10, 2023, was canceled.
Who’s On Top Documentary.
- Full club screening taking place at the weekly BOC meeting on March 29, 2023. It is a screening of a documentary based on being queer and outside. There will also be a Q&A Zoom with someone from the movie, and snacks and drinks will be offered.
Trip Library Idea. (Tommo)
- Library of several trip notes ready to go, based on past trips for current leaders to use.
BOC Dinners In Commons. (Casey)
- Could happen before meetings, or the meetings could be in the upstairs commons so people could eat dinner and attend meetings.
