{"id":27566,"date":"2010-06-04T10:26:50","date_gmt":"2010-06-04T14:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/?p=27566"},"modified":"2018-06-04T09:35:16","modified_gmt":"2018-06-04T13:35:16","slug":"2010-commencement-honorand-addresses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2010\/06\/04\/2010-commencement-honorand-addresses\/","title":{"rendered":"2010 Commencement honorand addresses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pioneering choreographer, leading researchers in the fields of climate change and reproduction, a best-selling novelist and one of television&#8217;s best-known journalists offered brief remarks and received honorary degrees during ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College&#8217;s 144th commencement ceremony May 30.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 2010 ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ honorands are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rennie Harris, the choreographer who brought hip-hop to the mainstream world of dance<\/li>\n<li>James McCarthy, a scientist recognized internationally for helping to communicate the science of climate change<\/li>\n<li>Jane Pauley, the veteran television journalist<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth Strout, the Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and 1977 ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ graduate<\/li>\n<li>Teresa Woodruff, a researcher responsible for pioneering work in the care of women who will become infertile due to cancer treatment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Here are their remarks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hip hop choreographer Rennie Harris at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/12244872?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hip hop choreographer Rennie Harris:<\/strong> &#8220;Movement is the last manifestation of your reality. What you do is who you are. Not what you say &#8230; Take action.
