{"id":18616,"date":"2004-12-22T13:30:56","date_gmt":"2004-12-22T18:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/?p=18616"},"modified":"2016-02-02T15:31:28","modified_gmt":"2016-02-02T20:31:28","slug":"debate-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2004\/12\/22\/debate-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Debate team takes on Oxford, Cambridge, the Worlds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href="https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2004\/12\/72uk.jpg"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2004\/12\/72uk.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium alignleft\" alt=\"ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ debaters\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has been a fantastic year,&#8221; said debate coach Bryan Brito. &#8220;Once again ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ debaters won the <a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2004\/09\/28\/debater-first-place\/\">novice tournament<\/a>, and we have trophied at virtually every tournament we have attended.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In mid-November, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ traveled to inter-varsity debate tournaments at Oxford and Cambridge universities, where the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ team of Ryan Creighton &#8217;07 of Lyme, N.H., and Mike Neville-O&#8217;Neill &#8217;07 of Rowley, Mass., took second place out of 100 teams competing at Oxford.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of December, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ sends two teams (Creighton and O&#8217;Neill compose one team, Vaibjav Bajpai of Calcutta, India, and Casey Pfitzner &#8217;07 of Spotsylvania, Va., the other) to Malaysia for the 2005 World Universities Debating Championships.
