The series consists of four evening performances in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $2 for students and senior citizens. Ticket reservations can be made by calling 207-786-6135.

The series begins on Aug. 1 with a performance by Frank Glazer and Duncan Cumming ’93, featuring works by Mozart, Schubert and Brahms. On Aug. 6, cellist Solen Dikener and pianist Yasin Dikener perform works by Luigi Bocherini, Ottomar Schoeck, Gabriel Faure and Paul Tortelier. On Aug. 9, violinist Scott Esty ’92, joins Solen Dikener and Cumming for a performance of trios by Haydyn, Brahms and Paul Schoenfield. The series concludes on Aug. 12 with Cumming and Esty in a presentation of three sonatas for violin and piano by Brahms.

Two summer music series to be held at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ /news/1997/06/18/summer-music-series/ /news/1997/06/18/summer-music-series/#respond Wed, 18 Jun 1997 15:35:24 +0000 http://home.bates.edu/?p=32575 ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College will present two separate concert series this summer, including a new series of indoor chamber music concerts as well as the traditional Lake Andrews performances.

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series presents five Thursday-evening musical performances on the open-air terrace overlooking Lake Andrews behind the Olin Arts Center. All concerts begin at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The series kicks off with a July 17 performance by the Orion Ensemble featuring jazz standards and original composition. On July 24, “Maine’s Own,” the 125th Army Band of the Maine Army National Guard, performs popular and patriotic standards. On July 31, Casco Bay Tummlers presents an evening of klezmer music. On Aug. 7, Benoit Borque & Friends entertain with an evening of Franco songs. The series concludes with an Aug. 14 performance by Wake the Neighbors of celtic fare with a jazzy edge.

Those who attend the concerts are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating, as well as picnic suppers. The rain site for the concerts will be the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.
