ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College offices will be closed Tuesday, March 19, due to a winter storm expected to produce hazardous driving conditions.

  • Only essential employees, designated in advance,Ìýshould report to work.
  • Dining services will be available.
  • Classes will be held unless canceled by the instructor.Ìý Students should check their email and Lyceum to determine if individual classes have been canceled by the instructor.
  • Updates will be posted here as needed.
  • ´¡ÌýÌýis in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 20.
  • Follow theÌýÌýin Lewiston during the storm via Weather Underground.
  • Check theÌýÌýfrom the National Weather Service office in Gray, Maine.

General storm safety information

  1. Fire safety: If electricity fails due to high winds, after several hours the system that transmits information to the Central Fire Station may not fully function, but local alarms and detectors will continue to function. As a result, students should leave the building as usual and then call 911 if a fire alarm goes off, followed by calling at 786-6111.ÌýAs always, candles should never be lit in a campus building.
  2. Personal safety: During times of high winds, stay clear of tall trees, and stay away from any downed wires.ÌýDo not driveÌýunless absolutely necessary.ÌýBe mindful of snowplows on area streets.
  3. Campus safety: The electronic card access system has a backup battery system and should continue to function even if the power goes out.
  4. Charging up: You should charge fully your electronic devices today. ÌýSimilarly, if the electricity goes out for an extended period of time, the hot water will not be available in many dorms and houses, so use it while you can.
  5. Electricity supply: Buildings with back-up generator power include New Commons, the Village complex, 280 College St., Pettengill and Security. However, even these buildings will have a limited electricity supply. Elsewhere, the electricity outages, if they occur, will likely vary in different locations on and off-campus.

As the snowstorm dubbed Nemo heads into New England, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College is actively monitoring the storm and taking precautions as needed.

Updates as of 11:44 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013:

    • ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College administrative offices will close at noon Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, due to the expected significant snow accumulation and increasing winds later today that will create hazardous driving conditions. Only those employees designated in advance as essential should report for work through Saturday midnight.
    • Classes will be held unless specifically canceled by the instructor. Students should check e-mail and/or Lyceum to determine if individual classes have been canceled by the instructor.
    • Ladd Library remains open.
    • Commons will serve meals as scheduled.
    • The Den is closed after 11 a.m. Friday, reopens 4 p.m. Sunday. Milt’s is closed after 11 a.m. Friday, reopens 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Catering is closed at noon Friday, reopens Sunday, Feb. 10.
    • Check events-related changes here.
    • Check athletics-related changes here.

Because of the Feb. 8-9 snowstorm, three ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ arts performances and a folk music festival have been postponed or canceled.

  • The Feb. 8 Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert has been postponed. L/A Arts, the concert presenter, hopes to reschedule the event for late June-early July.ÌýAll current ticket holders should retain their tickets until that date; all purchased tickets and ticket winners, will be honored for this date.   • The F.A.B. Winter Dance Showcase, a collaboration between ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and the Franco-American Heritage Center, has been rescheduled for March 2. For more information, call 207-689-2000.
  • The third annual ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College Folk Music Festival, planned for Feb. 8 and 9, has been postponed. The Freewill Folk Society hopes to reschedule it for May.
  • The Feb. 9 performance by the Gerald Clayton Trio has been postponed, with the new date to be announced.

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College administrative offices will be closed Thursday, March 1, 2012, because of a significant winter storm that’s expected to produce significant snow accumulation and create hazardous driving conditions throughout the day.

Only those employees designated in advance as essential should report for work.

The Bobcat Den, Milt’s and DIning Services’ catering department won’t be operating today, but Commons will be open for its regular hours.

Please note that the city of Lewiston has declared an emergency parking ban effective until 6 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012.
