The free concerts, open to the public, will be held Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the college’s Olin Arts Concert Hall, located on Russell Street in Lewiston.

The artist for the Nov. 3 concert will be pianist Brian Franck, who will perform works by Alexander Scriabin. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ senior Vijay Kalappa and junior Courtney Elf, both flute students of instructor of applied music Lee Humphreys, will perform Nov. 10. Cellist Bonnie Black and family will perform Nov. 17. There will be no concert Nov. 24 when the college is in Thanksgiving recess.

Pianist Frank Glazer to lecture on philosophy of performance /news/1998/10/19/glazer-lecture/ /news/1998/10/19/glazer-lecture/#respond Mon, 19 Oct 1998 17:01:45 +0000 http://home.bates.edu/?p=21805 Pianist Frank Glazer, artist-in-residence and lecturer in music at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ since 1980, will discuss “A Philosophy of Artistic Performance with Some Practical Suggestions” Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Glazer previously served on the faculty of the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester for 15 years. A specialist in Beethoven, he is a recipient of the distinguished Paderewski Piano Medal, awarded in London to “an artist of superlative degree.”

His performances have taken him throughout the United States, South America, Europe and the Near East. He has performed at Carnegie and Avery Fischer halls in New York, the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

A founding member of the New England Piano Quartett, Glazer performs regularly in the Portland Chamber Music Society series.

The free concerts, open to the public, will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the College’s Olin Arts Concert Hall located on Russell Street in Lewiston.

On May 7, clarinetist Carol Furman and ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ pianist Mark Howard will perform the Sonata in F minor by Brahms and short pieces by Max Reger. On May 14, guitarist Bill Shimamura and his group, Murphy’s Lawbreakers, will perform traditional Irish folk music. On May 16, Mark Manduca and the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College Jazz Band will play. On May 21, oboist Michelle Vigneau and baroque flutist Anthony Allen will perform music by Handel and Couperin.
