The “F.A.B.” Winter Dance Showcase, says Professor of Dance Carol Dilley, “gives audiences a rare chance to see a variety of dance styles, but it’s also an opportunity for the artists to network.

“Dancers of all kinds work together to present this program, from seasoned professionals exploring new works to young dancers broadening their horizons in this field that they love.”

乐播传媒 students will present two of the 14 performances by dance artists from around Maine 鈥� as well as New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts 鈥� in the 11th , co-sponsored by 乐播传媒 College and the Franco Center, and taking place downtown at the Franco Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6.

Here’s the roster of 2016 F.A.B. performers:

• A 乐播传媒 senior from New York City, Mary Anne Bodnar will perform her piece “Sparkle.” A 乐播传媒 sophomore from Middleton, Mass., Jorge Piccole will perform a hip hop solo.
• Claire Porter and Sara Juli perform “Small Stories,” which they premiered at the American Dance Festival last summer. Porter, of New Jersey, is a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow who has presented her piece “PORTABLES” extensively. A dancer and professional fundraiser, Juli, of Portland, Maine, teaches at the 乐播传媒 Dance Festival and has been a resident artist at 乐播传媒.
• Shawn Hove is a choreographer and dancer, lighting designer and media artist who was video co-director for the 乐播传媒 Dance Festival for a decade and is artistic director of the company “shove gently dance.”
• Dancers from the Community Dance Project Ensemble of Saco, a nonprofit dedicated to the infusion of dance in the Maine public school system and directed by Emma Arenstam Campbell ’08.
• Melinda聽Buckwalter, Kristen Stake and Jacob DeRaadt present “Last Chance to Get It Right.” Buckwalter is a dance writer and movement researcher who resides in Western Massachusetts and is a visiting lecturer in dance at 乐播传媒. Based in Portland, Stake is a dance artist and poet, and teaches contact improvisation. DeRaadt, also of Portland, is a sound artist who works with field recordings, tape manipulation, amplified metal and the human voice.
• Alexandra James of Portland works with the nonprofit Swift Urban Movement Project to teach a healthy, active, and social lifestyle through dance.
• Collective Motion, a Southern Maine-based modern dance company, was established in 2006 by Artistic Director Jennifer Bourgeault.
• Molly Gawler, of Monroe, Maine, is known as both a scion of Maine’s folksinging Gawler Family and a member of the renowned Pilobolus Dance Company, with which she toured internationally in a leading role in Shadowland.
• Dancers from the Portland School of Ballet CORPS Program, created in 1994 by Portland Ballet as an innovative partnership with Portland High School, resulting in a preprofessional performing arts high school curriculum unique in Maine.
• The Colby Dancers are directed by Annie Kloppenberg, assistant professor of theater and dance at Colby College. She founded and co-curates Moving Target Boston, and teaches and performs nationally with the improvisational ensemble Like You Mean It.
• Laura Peterson is a New York City-based dance artist and choreographer. Her work “Forever” was recently performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
• indiedanceworks is a Portland-based company, established in 2009 by Susan Thompson-Brown and Lisa Quijano Wolfinger, that has performed throughout Maine and New England.
• Portland Youth Dance is a nonprofit serving Greater Portland by providing a preprofessional dance company and outreach programs for kids and teens.

Bigger and better than ever in its 10th year, the F.A.B Winter Dance Showcase returns with 18 performances by artists from Maine, Connecticut and New York 鈥斅爄ncluding the acclaimed Dante Brown|Warehouse Dance 鈥斅燽eginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Franco Center, 46 Cedar St.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with music by Les Bijoux Folk Orchestra, and the evening ends with a family-friendly traditional social dance accompanied by Les Bijoux. Admission is $15 for the general public, $12 for seniors and $5 for students (plus a small fee for credit card purchases), available from the Franco Center at .

“This fertile partnership between the Franco Center in Lewiston and the 乐播传媒 dance program has presented over 100 dance works over the course of nine concerts,” says Carol Dilley, associate professor of dance at 乐播传媒 and dance program director.

“For this year鈥檚 gala performance, many of those performers and choreographers are back, joining exciting new artists showing work for the first time.”

Artists new to F.A.B. include:

鈥� Debi Irons and Collective Motion, a collaboration between two important figures in Maine dance;
鈥� StripWrecked, a burlesque company from Portland back for a repeat performance;
L Street Dance Theater from Norway, Maine;
鈥� 乐播传媒 dance students Talia Mason, Isaiah Rice and Deepsing Syangtan.

“This year鈥檚 lineup in the ninth annual F.A.B. Winter Dance Showcase is a testament to the health and diversity of Maine’s contemporary dance community,” says Carol Dilley, an organizer of the event and director of the 乐播传媒 College dance program.

F.A.B. aims to bring the mid-Maine dance audience together with artists from around the region. Visually stunning and kinetically mesmerizing, this event energizes Lewiston’s most beautiful auditorium with a kaleidoscope of dance styles.

Performers from as far away as Connecticut and as close as 乐播传媒 are taking part in the event. With eight new names on the roster joining six F.A.B. veterans, “it seems that the word is out that F.A.B. is a good place to show work,” Dilley notes. “Many of the new artists found us before we could find them.”

Also new this year is a project near and dear to the mission of the Franco Center. “We’re very excited to finally have an homage to the traditional Franco-American dance of this area,” Dilley says.

Cindy Larock, well-known in the Twin Cities and beyond as a folk dance advocate, is working with 乐播传媒 jazz dance teacher Debi Irons to create a piece integrating jazz and Franco-American. “Through this collaboration we have discovered shared interests, favorite musicians and generations of dancers all enjoying dancing together,” Dilley says.

The evening concludes with a traditional Franco-American “kitchen party,” a celebration with food, dance and music. All are welcome to come downstairs after the show for refreshments and dancing to the live music by members of the Great Falls Community Folk Orchestra.

Named for the community partners presenting the showcase — the Franco-American center and Bates College — F.A.B. brings the Maine community together through dance. A variety of dance genres come together in a memorable evening filled with beauty, tenderness, humor, innovation and familiar forms.

Choreographers from across Maine and New England, including 乐播传媒 students and faculty, Colby College students, and choreographers from New Hampshire and Connecticut College, will present work.

From 乐播传媒, F.A.B. dance artists are Rachel Boggia, assistant professor of dance, and three dance majors: juniors Bridgette Chandhoke of Fairfax, Va., and Leroy Barnes of Woodbridge, Va.; and sophomore Isaiah Rice of Dallas.

Other Maine artists on the program come from Androscoggin Dance, the professional training program at the Dance Center in Auburn; the Maine Dance Project; Shove Gently Dance; Indiedanceworks; Tim Rice and Debi Irons; and Range of Motion Arts.

Kira Gavin, a member of the 乐播传媒 class of 2012, has choreographed a large project for Androscoggin Dance based on the elements, and the F.A.B. program includes “Water” from that project. Gavin has also created a tap piece with dancers from the school.

Coming from Colby College is dance major Delaney McDonough.

New Hampshire choreographer-dancers Patricia Harms and Christine Simes are familiar members of the F.A.B. program. And Shawn Hove of Connecticut College is a regular on the 乐播传媒 Dance Festival videography and documentation team.

Because of the Feb. 8-9 snowstorm, three 乐播传媒 arts performances and a folk music festival have been postponed or canceled.

• The Feb. 8 Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert has been postponed. L/A Arts, the concert presenter, hopes to reschedule the event for late June-early July.聽All current ticket holders should retain their tickets until that date; all purchased tickets and ticket winners, will be honored for this date. F.A.B. (“Franco-American/乐播传媒”) is an ongoing effort to bring the Maine community together through the arts. Choreographers from across Maine and New England submit work for inclusion in the program, which also features 乐播传媒 student groups.

This year, styles range from contemporary ballet to Japanese butoh, to contemporary modern dance, to jazz. The variety makes for an exciting evening filled with beauty, tenderness, humor, new ideas and familiar forms.

Regional choreographers sharing their work in the historic venue of the FAHC include Rebecca Laber-Smith and Robyn Nast, Zoe Eddy, Wendy E. Getchell, 乐播传媒 senior Lindsay Reuter, Heather Baur, Annie Kloppenberg, Nell Simpson and Nancy Salmon. Karl Rogers, a member of David Dorfman Dance, offers a solo piece performed by Rachel Boggia, visiting assistant professor of dance at 乐播传媒 and acting director of the college’s dance program.
