乐播传媒 College has announced the election of three new trustees, effective July 1, 2026.

• Scott F. Higgins 鈥�91, P鈥�27 is a business leader currently working as a senior executive in the commercial insurance industry. 
• Matthew B. Schecter 鈥�89, P鈥�20 is a leader in the life sciences industry whose work has focused on advancing healthcare communication, education, and access.
• Sophia B. “Sophie” Wagener 鈥�17 is an attorney based in California, whose practice is focused on general liability matters and toxic tort, defending plaintiffs in personal injury lawsuits involving exposure to dangerous chemicals and hazardous substances.

The new trustees will serve five-year terms that extend to June 30, 2031.

Scott F. Higgins 鈥�91, P鈥�27

Scott Higgins is a business leader currently working as a senior executive in the commercial insurance industry. 

Higgins is the executive vice president for Burns & Wilcox, overseeing the firm鈥檚 North American commercial insurance division. He executes Burns & Wilcox鈥檚 comprehensive strategy and maximizes client and market relationships.

Prior to joining Burns & Wilcox, Higgins worked for Travelers for more than 30 years. He held a variety of roles at the insurance giant, working in nearly every aspect of North American operations and holding the title of executive vice president and president of Middle Market and National Property for Travelers.

At 乐播传媒, Higgins majored in political science. A football player, he was a recipient of the Robert P.  Schmidt Award, given to a teammate who demonstrates physical and mental courage while bringing honor and achievement to themselves and their team. He earned an MBA from the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). As a member of the alumni community, Higgins has served as a class agent and been an Alumni in Admission volunteer. He continues to work closely with other football alumni.

Higgins鈥� volunteer work outside of 乐播传媒 includes a deep commitment to Vista Life Innovations, a nonprofit that provides programs and services to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve personal success and independence.

Higgins and his wife Heather P鈥�27 reside in Connecticut and are the parents of Karly and Cole 鈥�27, a politics major with a minor in history. Cole is a member of the football team. Scott’s mother Althea Curtis Higgins 鈥�70 also attended 乐播传媒.

Matthew B. Schecter 鈥�89, P鈥�20

Matthew B. Schecter is the founder and chief executive officer of The Lockwood Group, a global pharmaceutical services organization specializing in medical communications, market access, regulatory affairs, and clinical consulting. Founded in 2007, The Lockwood Group employs over 800 professionals worldwide.  In 2021, Ares Management made a strategic investment in the company to support its continued growth and expansion.

During a 30-year career in the life sciences industry, Schecter has built and led organizations dedicated to advancing healthcare communication, education, and access. 

At 乐播传媒, Schecter majored in political science and excelled at track and field. He was a three-time NCAA All-American, NCAA national champion, and still holds the college鈥檚 high jump record. He is a member of the College Key. As an alumnus, he served on his 25th Reunion committee, co-chaired his 35th Reunion gift committee, and has volunteered as a class agent and Alumni in Admission representative.

Schecter is active in several civic and philanthropic organizations, including Children of Fallen Patriots, which supports the families of fallen service members and helps their children pursue higher education. 

He and his wife Jill P鈥�20 live in Palm Beach, Fla. They have two adult children, Zachary and Samantha 鈥�20. Samantha earned a degree in neuroscience from 乐播传媒 and works as a senior marketing coordinator at Kohn Pedersen Fox in New York. Schecter鈥檚 brother, Michael Schecter ’86, is executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer for Morgan Properties. Michael is married to Sharon Jane Curry ’88, a lactation consultant at Sibley Memorial Hospital.

Sophia B. “Sophie” Wagener 鈥�17

Sophie Wagener is an attorney working as an associate at California-based Walsworth LLP. Her practice focuses on general liability and toxic tort litigation 鈥� complex cases involving exposure to harmful substances. It鈥檚 work that calls on both her scientific background and legal precision.

Before joining Walsworth, Wagener gained hands-on litigation experience serving as second chair in two civil jury trials and helping defend clients across a broad spectrum of cases, including professional, product, and premises liability. During law school, she interned with a nonprofit supporting cancer patients, in-house at a healthcare company, at the city attorney鈥檚 office, and at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. 

At 乐播传媒, Wagener pursued biology with a minor in public health and a concentration in Asian studies 鈥� an academic combination that reflects her wide-ranging interests and love of interdisciplinary thinking. In 2023, she earned her JD from the University of San Diego School of Law, magna cum laude, and is a member of the Order of the Coif.

Wagener is an active member of the alumni community who looks forward to annual reunion weekends with her close-knit circle of 乐播传媒 friends. Her commitment to the college extends beyond participation 鈥� just one year after graduating, Wagener and her parents, Shaw B. Wagener and Debbie J. Heitz, established the Wagener Family Professorship at 乐播传媒, dedicated to advancing equity and inclusion in STEM. Today, April Horton carries that mission forward as the Wagener Family Professor of Equity and Inclusion in STEM.

乐播传媒 College has announced the election of four new trustees, effective July 1, 2025:

• Jeanmarie Hester Cooper 鈥�85, P鈥�19 is a nonprofit leader who has served in multiple board and development roles in Connecticut;
• Peter J. Friedman 鈥�92, P鈥�24, P鈥�26 is managing partner and founder of Five by Five Capital LLC;
• Sarah E. Norris P鈥�26 leads the Midwest office of BBR Partners, where she is a partner and a director of portfolio and wealth advisory;
• Jennifer VanBelle 鈥�90 is an independent board director who served in senior leadership for more than 25 years at General Electric Co.

The new trustees will serve five-year terms that extend to June 30, 2030.

Jeanmarie Hester Cooper 鈥�85, P鈥�19

Jeanmarie Hester Cooper is a nonprofit leader who has served in multiple board and development roles for several charitable organizations over the last two decades, including The Village for Families and Children Inc., Connecticut鈥檚 largest nonprofit mental health and community support organization. With an annual budget of $60 million, its 500 employees serve 20,000 individuals a year. Cooper has also worked with the Junior League of Hartford Inc., the Aurora Foundation for Women and Girls Giving Circle in Hartford and served on the local board of A Better Chance in Glastonbury, Conn. The Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies recognized her as a Family Champion in 2015. 

Cooper began her career in investment banking, working for both Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. and G.E. Capital’s Corporate Finance business, providing growth and acquisition financing to middle market companies.

While at 乐播传媒, Cooper majored in biology, was on the dean鈥檚 list and played varsity soccer all four years. She was also on the indoor track team and served as a junior advisor. Cooper went on to earn a M.B.A from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She鈥檚 been a dedicated member of the alumni community particularly through the Hartford 乐播传媒 Network, and served on multiple Reunion Gift Committees, including co-chairing her 35th. As a 乐播传媒 parent, she served on the Parents Fund Committee and was Parents Leadership Circle Chair, 2017鈥�19, receiving a 乐播传媒’ Best Award for volunteer service in 2018.

Cooper lives in Guilford, Conn. with her husband Colin Cooper P鈥�19. They have two adult children, Ashley and Eli. Eli 鈥�19 majored in economics at 乐播传媒 and will attend The Sloan School at MIT in the fall.

Peter J. Friedman 鈥�92, P鈥�24, P鈥�26

Peter J. Friedman is the managing partner and founder of Five by Five Capital LLC, a private equity firm focused on a broad range of industries, including financial services, aerospace, and defense. He is also a principal at AgileCap, a boutique commercial lender specializing in solutions for the insurance industry. Prior to founding Five By Five Capital LLC, Friedman managed mergers and acquisitions as the vice president of corporate development for Loews Corporation.

 Earlier, Peter was a director in the Corporate Strategy and Development Group at United Technologies Corporation, managing mergers and acquisitions across the company. His responsibilities included sourcing, managing, and negotiating all aspects of mergers and acquisitions. 

Friedman was a geology major at 乐播传媒. Early in his career he was a pilot for US Airways. In 2003 he received a M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He served on the advisory board at Tuck, and in May 2025 returned to 乐播传媒 to teach a new Short Term course called 鈥淭uck Business Essentials,鈥� which he taught alongside faculty from Tuck and other 乐播传媒/Tuck alumni. 

Friedman and his wife, Kitty Northrop Friedman 鈥�95, P鈥�24, P鈥�26, a 乐播传媒 trustee emerita, are deeply engaged alumni, and were both members of The Campaign for 乐播传媒: Endowing Our Values campaign committee. Friedman鈥檚 service to his class is extensive and includes serving as chair of his 30th Reunion Gift Committee and co-chair for his 10th and 25th Reunions.

The Friedmans live in Park City, Utah, and have three adult children, Ned, Lindley, and Molly. Ned 鈥�24 majored in politics, was a co-chief of 乐播传媒 Emergency Medical Services, and is now working as a firefighter in the Denver area.聽Lindley 鈥�26 is majoring in biology and is a captain of 乐播传媒 Emergency Medical Services.聽

Sarah E. Norris P鈥�26

Sarah E. Norris is a partner and a director of portfolio and wealth advisory at BBR Partners, and leads the company鈥檚 Midwest office. She joined the company in 2015 and works with clients to develop their overall financial strategy, manage their investments, and integrate their investment, tax and estate planning into a cohesive wealth management plan. Before joining BBR, Norris was an executive director in the Private Bank at JP Morgan. Earlier in her career, she was selected as a First Chicago First Scholar.

Norris is a graduate of Brown University, where she majored in international relations and economics and played varsity field hockey. She received a M.B.A. from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. Her community work includes serving on the board of trustees and senior advisory council for the Latin School of Chicago. She is a member of the investment committee of Jewish United Fund of Chicago and was recently elected to the board of trustees of Steppenwolf Theatre Co. 

Norris lives in Chicago with her husband, Clifford “Cliff” Norris P鈥�26. They have four adult children, Molly, Sophie, Max, and Lucy 鈥�26, who is majoring in biology at 乐播传媒 with a minor in theater. Lucy is also a member of the field hockey team. 

Jennifer VanBelle 鈥�90

Jennifer VanBelle 鈥�90 is an independent board director and a retired senior executive at General Electric Co. Between 1998 and 2024 she held multiple roles at General Electric, most recently serving as senior vice president and treasurer, as well as CEO and treasurer of GE Capital, the financial services arm of General Electric. As treasurer, VanBelle was responsible for global funding and liquidity, capital structure, cash management, and treasury services globally. She also served as a member of the Advisory Board of GE Women鈥檚 Network and as an Executive Sponsor of GE鈥檚 Disability Advocacy Network.聽She had previously worked for Banque Indosuez, ING Barings, and Chemical Bank.

VanBelle currently sits on the board at AerCap, the world鈥檚 largest aviation leasing firm and owner of commercial aircraft. She also serves as a board member at buildOn, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through service and education. She previously served as a board member of the Child Guidance Center.

At 乐播传媒, VanBelle majored in economics. She was a member of house council and the economics club, and participated in the 乐播传媒 Blood Program. She earned a M.S. in finance from the London Business School. As an alumna, VanBelle served as a volunteer career counselor for 乐播传媒 students for more than a decade. 

VanBelle and her husband, Andy Brode, live in Old Greenwich, Conn. She has two adult sons, Nick and Thomas, as well as four stepchildren, Rhyan, Alex, Turner, and Campbell.

Jeremy Chase 鈥�91

Jeremy Chase is a healthcare investment professional with over 25 years of experience and is co-founder of Parkman Healthcare Partners, an investment firm based in Stamford, Conn., that specializes in the medical technology, biotechnology, life sciences, and health care services sectors. Prior to founding Parkman, Chase was a senior analyst at the investment firms Schonfeld and at Millennium; a managing director at First Manhattan; and a principal at Pequot Capital.

Chase majored in English at 乐播传媒. A member of the varsity baseball team, he was co-captain his senior year, receiving the David Nash Baseball Award for exemplifying 鈥渆ffort and dedication” to baseball at 乐播传媒. Chase has served as a 乐播传媒 Fund class agent; a member of the College Key alumni honor society and on the New York 乐播传媒 Business Network steering committee. He received a 乐播传媒’ Best Award for volunteer service in 2016 and has been a member of the Alumni Council and Reunion Gift committees. He has served as a Purposeful Work Job Shadow Sponsor. He is married to Christine Werthmann Chase 鈥�92, and the couple lives in Rye, N.Y., with their two children.

Shannon Griffin 鈥�16

Shannon Griffin is a senior analyst at U3 Advisors, where she works with higher education institutions, hospitals, and other nonprofit organizations to develop community-driven solutions that prioritize equity and inclusion in development projects. Griffin鈥檚 previous experience includes a Princeton in Asia Fellowship in Shanghai, China, where she worked in student life and as a teaching fellow at a Chinese-English immersion boarding school. She has worked as a college counselor and community assistant and has certificates in TEFL/TESOL and in restorative justice and mediation.

Griffin majored in Chinese and psychology at 乐播传媒, studying the impact of urbanization on China鈥檚 ethnic minorities and sustainable tourism. In women鈥檚 track and field, she earned NESCAC All-Academic honors and a 乐播传媒 Senior Scholar Award. At graduation, she received the Alfred J. Wright Foreign Language Award and the Richard V. Wagner Prize in Psychology, and delivered the annual Senior Address at Commencement. Griffin has served as a 乐播传媒 Fund class agent and on her 5th Reunion Gift Committee. She is a member of the College Key alumni honor society and the Benjamin Mays Black Alumni Society, and has served as a Purposeful Work Job Shadow Sponsor. She lives in Philadelphia.

Jason Ryan 鈥�96

Jason Ryan has extensive executive and board experience in the life sciences and biotech industries, and currently serves as the executive chair of the board at GeneDx, a leader in delivering improved health outcomes to patients through genomic and clinical insights.

In addition to his role at GeneDx, Ryan serves as a director of Singular Genomics, a company that develops platforms and applications to advance genomics in medicine, and as the chair of the board of Somalogic, a leader in developing proteomics technology. He has a strong background in molecular diagnostics, genomic technologies, and therapeutics, and has extensive experience in scaling companies, developing strategy, capital markets, and commercialization. Previously chief operating and financial officer at Magenta and CFO at Foundation Medicine, he led finance and strategic planning functions in several industry firms, and began his career at Deloitte & Touche.

Ryan majored in economics at 乐播传媒 and earned an M.B.A. from the FW Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. He has served as a lead 乐播传媒 Fund class agent, Alumni In Admission volunteer, and chair of his 25th Reunion Gift Committee, and in 2021 received a 乐播传媒’ Best Award for volunteer service. He is married to Jennifer Ryan, and the couple lives in Winchester, Mass., with their two children.

• Terrence Murray P鈥�23, founder of Eliot Street Capital, a New England-focused commercial real estate investment company;聽
• Stacey Rizza P’20, M.D., executive medical director for international practice at the Mayo Clinic.

Terrence J. Murray 

With more than 25 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, Murray founded Eliot Street Capital, a New England鈥揻ocused commercial real estate investment company. Prior to starting Eliot Street Capital, he was a principal at CrossHarbor Capital Partners, investing in value-add-oriented commercial real estate transactions throughout the United States. Before that, Terry was a corporate attorney at Ropes & Gray LLP, where he concentrated on mergers and acquisitions and venture capital investment transactions. 

A member of the real estate committee for Mass General Brigham, Murray has served on the board of the Providence Country Day School, the Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts, and YouthBuild Boston. He earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree at Harvard College and a J.D. at Boston College Law School. He lives in Jamaica Plain, Mass., with his wife, Nicole; a son, Samuel; and daughters Jamie and Sadie, who is a member of the 乐播传媒 Class of 2023. 

Stacey Rizza

An infectious disease physician, Dr. Stacey Rizza is the executive medical director for international practice at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. A fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, she is involved in laboratory-based and clinical research, investigating how HIV and hepatitis C cause liver disease, and various educational initiatives; serves as a professor of medicine and associate dean of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences; and maintains a busy clinical practice that focuses on HIV and transplant infectious diseases. A previous chair of the Mayo HIV Clinic, Rizza has held NIH grants and received a patent for her work on HIV and HCV-mediated apoptosis. 

During the pandemic, Rizza and her Mayo Clinic colleague, Dr. Jack O鈥橦oro, provided clinical guidance to the college鈥檚 COVID-19 planning, contributing to a successful in-person academic year in 2020鈥�21 for 乐播传媒.

She earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biochemistry from Haverford College and a medical degree from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, followed by an internal medicine residency and infectious disease fellowship at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. She lives in Rochester, Minn. Her daughter, Emma, is a 2020 乐播传媒 graduate.

Murray and Rizza were elected to serve five-year terms, beginning July 1, 2021. The board also re-elected seven trustees to serve an additional five-year term: Chris Barbin 鈥�93, Gregory Ehret 鈥�91, P鈥�23, David Longdon III 鈥�14, Judith Miller 鈥�91, John Rossello Jr., Emma Sprague 鈥�10, and Lisa Utzschneider 鈥�90.  

乐播传媒 College has announced the election of two new members to its Board of Trustees:

• Lance Matthiesen 鈥�85, global manager, McKinsey Black Network Programs at McKinsey & Co.;
• Michelle Angelone Rosenberg 鈥�94, global general counsel and company secretary of Janus Henderson Group plc.

鈥淟ance and Michelle bring both considerable professional experience and fresh perspectives to the board. For many years, they have been active leaders and volunteers within the 乐播传媒 alumni community,鈥� said John D. Gillespie 鈥�80, chair of the board. 鈥淚 look forward to working with them closely as we help 乐播传媒 continue to provide a distinctive liberal arts education during these unusual times.鈥�

Matthiesen and Rosenberg were elected during a July 22, 2020 meeting of the board. Additionally, at the Spring 2020 board meeting in May, trustees re-elected to five-year terms of service were Andrea Bueschel 鈥�90, Garth A.L. Timoll 鈥�99, and Jean P. Wilson 鈥�81.

Lance Matthiesen 鈥�85

Lance Matthiesen is global manager, McKinsey Black Network Programs at McKinsey & Co., a role that he will begin later this month. Previously, he served as vice president of institutional partnerships at Management Leadership for Tomorrow, a Washington, D.C.鈥揵ased career development organization providing skills, coaching, and networking for members of underrepresented communities. Prior to that, Matthiesen spent more than 20 years leading commercial teams in the technology and professional services industries. 

He serves on the board of ProInspire in Washington, D.C., and has previously served on the boards of the Montgomery County (Maryland) Community Foundation and Bright Beginnings Daycare in Washington, D.C. Deeply involved in the 乐播传媒 alumni community, Lance is a longtime Alumni in Admission volunteer, a member of several Class of 1985 Reunion committees, the Alumni Council, and the 乐播传媒 Alumni Mosaic network.

A Benjamin E. Mays Scholar, Lance earned a B.A. in economics at 乐播传媒. He was a member of the Economics Club and Afro-American Society, Afro-American Club (now Amandla! Black Student Union) and worked at WRBC radio. He also played varsity basketball for three years, served as a co-captain, and won the varsity honor award in his senior year. Matthiesen was also elected to the College Club (now the College Key). After 乐播传媒, he earned an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and currently serves on its Business School Fund Alumni Council.

Lance lives in Chevy Chase, Md., with his wife, Tracey Griffin. They have two sons, Logan and Cole. 

Michelle Angelone Rosenberg 鈥�94 

Michelle Angelone Rosenberg is global general counsel and company secretary of Janus Henderson Group plc, a global asset management group headquartered in London. She is responsible for global oversight of the legal and internal audit teams, representing Janus Henderson with regulators and industry groups and serving on a number of management committees including Janus Henderson鈥檚 Executive Committee. 

Previously at Janus Henderson, Michelle was senior vice president, head of legal, North America and deputy general counsel of Janus Capital Group. Prior to that role, she worked at Fidelity Management & Research Co., where she supported various legal initiatives, particularly investment advisory and investment company issues.

At 乐播传媒, Michelle was a dean鈥檚 list student, earning a B.A. in criminal psychology. She went on to earn a J.D. with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Since graduating, she has stayed involved with 乐播传媒 by serving as a class agent, Reunion gift committee member, Alumni in Admission interviewer, and volunteer.

Michelle is married to Dave Rosenberg 鈥�96. They live in Denver with their two children, Eli and Brooke.

乐播传媒 College has announced the election of attorney and Chicago-area civic leader Katherine Segal Frekko 鈥�95 to its Board of Trustees.

鈥淭he board is delighted to welcome Katie as our newest trustee,鈥� said John Gillespie 鈥�80, chair of the board. 鈥淲ith her experience in law, coupled with a deep understanding of 乐播传媒 through extensive volunteer leadership work, she will be an invaluable addition to the board.鈥�

Katherine Segal Frekko 鈥�95

A former corporate attorney, Frekko earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as editor of the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law & Policy. She later was an associate with Winston & Strawn LLP in Washington, D.C., specializing in mergers and acquisitions, private equity financing, general corporate contracts, and international corporate issues.

She now focuses on a variety of nonprofit activities, including serving on The Woman鈥檚 Board at Rush University Medical Center, Northwestern University Women鈥檚 Board, and the board of governors of the Lake Forest Open Lands Association. She is also a director of the Segal Family Foundation.

As a 乐播传媒 undergraduate, Frekko was a member of the track team, serving as captain her junior and senior years. A political science major with a secondary concentration in French, she earned election to the College Key, the 乐播传媒 alumni honor society, upon graduation.

Long active in 乐播传媒 alumni affairs, she is a former member of the Alumni Council and 乐播传媒 Fund Committee. She has co-chaired each of her class鈥檚 Reunion Gift efforts since graduation, including her 25th in 2020. An Alumni-in-Admission volunteer, she is a former member of the Chicago 乐播传媒 Network.

Frekko lives in Chicago with her husband, Matt, and their three children.

Erica Stewart Bullard

Erica Stewart Bullard 鈥�90 is vice president and general manager of Nike NYC and East.

Erica Bullard is vice president and general manager of Nike NYC and East, where she is responsible for driving growth and a connected retail marketplace in New York City with reach across the East territory, North America, and around the globe.

Bullard has served in several roles at Nike, including vice president and general manager, Global Cross-Category Marketplace Sales, where she drove global marketplace strategies across all of Nike鈥檚 sport categories: Running, Training, Sportswear, Football, Kids, Women鈥檚, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, and Skate.

Among other roles, Erica also worked in the Jordan Brand for seven years, leading Global Sales and as the general manager of Jordan and Nike Basketball in Western Europe.

At 乐播传媒, Erica majored in French and was a member of the varsity women鈥檚 tennis team and the alpine ski team. She lives in New York City with her husband, Basil, and their three children, Colby, Alex, and Zoe.

Stacey Kelly

Stacey Kelly P鈥�21 is a former equities trader with Goldman Sachs and a volunteer leader for numerous nonprofits.

A former finance executive, Stacey Kelly has worked for Goldman Sachs in equity finance in London and New York, as well as Cargill Financial Services in Minneapolis. She now focuses her time on a variety of nonprofit activities, including serving as a trustee of the Rudolf Steiner School in New York, where she also served as board chair and treasurer.

Kelly has served on the boards for Shoe4Africa, the former Treehouse Foundation, and the Foundation for Small Voices. She directed an annual campaign to benefit 10,000 underserved children in the New York metropolitan area for several years.

Additionally, Kelly has been involved with several start-ups and performs consulting work for small businesses and nonprofits. She earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Iowa State and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota. She lives in New York City with her husband, Hal, their two sons, Bryce and Blake, and their daughter, Andie, a member of the 乐播传媒 Class of 2021.

At its February meeting, the 乐播传媒 College Board of Trustees elected John D. Gillespie 鈥�80 as the next chair of the board, succeeding Michael W. Bonney 鈥�80, who retires from the board on June 30 after 17 years as a trustee and nine years as chair.

鈥淚 am thrilled that John will be the next chair of the 乐播传媒 Board,鈥� said President Clayton Spencer. 鈥淗e is one of the most experienced of our current trustees, bringing to the role critical expertise in finance, management, and investment, as well as a track record of effective leadership in a wide range of roles on the board. Most important, John brings a deep commitment to 乐播传媒 that began in his undergraduate years and has deepened over time through his own engagement and the experience of two of his children as recent students and graduates.鈥�

鈥淚 am honored by this opportunity to give back to 乐播传媒, which has provided so much for my family and me, in such a meaningful way. I take very seriously the trust that has been placed in me by fellow trustees and the broader 乐播传媒 community,鈥� Gillespie said.

鈥淭he knowledge, skills, and habits of mind taught in the liberal arts are increasingly important for the rapidly changing world of work, the stewardship of a healthy democracy, and life in a globally interconnected world. Our job as a board, working with the leadership of the college, is to make sure that the quality and relevance of the 乐播传媒 education are strengthened in the present and maintained for generations to come.鈥�

Founder and managing partner at Prospector Partners LLC and respected as one of 乐播传媒鈥� most hard-working and effective trustees, Gillespie joined the board in 2004 and has chaired or served on 10 of the board鈥檚 12 standing committees. In 2013, as chair of the Investment Committee, he led 乐播传媒鈥� transition to a professional endowment manager. Gillespie also served as a member of the Institutional Planning Trustee Subcommittee in 2016, and he has provided guidance and stability during a dynamic four-year period in which more than a third of the current trustees have joined the board.

As a trustee leader, Gillespie is 鈥渁mbitious for the college and always prepared to ask the difficult questions that help us move the college forward in a way that is faithful to our mission and designed to ensure a sustainable future for the college,鈥� Spencer said. 鈥淚 am deeply grateful for John鈥檚 willingness to take on this new responsibility on behalf of 乐播传媒.鈥�

With Bonney and fellow trustee Geraldine FitzGerald 鈥�75, Gillespie is one of three co-chairs of the current $300 million 乐播传媒 Campaign, which passed the $202 million mark in January. He is a philanthropic leader within the 乐播传媒 community, focusing his generosity on building endowed financial aid to ensure that a 乐播传媒 education is accessible to all qualified students, regardless of their families鈥� financial circumstances. A champion for educational opportunity, his leadership has inspired many other alumni and parents to also contribute to this key priority of the college.

Gillespie was elected as chair by the 乐播传媒 Board of Trustees following a highly structured process of consultation with the board and a broad range of college constituencies. Secretary of the Corporation and Trustee Lisa Barry 鈥�77, who led the chair succession subcommittee, described the process as 鈥渁 nine-month listening tour,鈥� involving students, faculty, staff, alumni, fellow trustees, and former trustees.

鈥淭heir insights were invaluable as we developed our recommendation for the next 乐播传媒 Board chair. While John Gillespie emerged as the leading candidate as an experienced and knowledgeable leader, we were particularly impressed with his commitment to access and inclusion, which was an issue raised by all of the college鈥檚 key stakeholders.鈥�

Joining Barry on the succession subcommittee were FitzGerald, Andrea Conklin Bueschel 鈥�90, Richard Smith P鈥�12, and William Sweat 鈥�79.

Graduating cum laude from 乐播传媒 in 1980, Gillespie majored in economics and earned honors in the field, writing a thesis titled 鈥淎n Empirical Analysis of the U.S. Import Demand Function.鈥� He was a varsity golfer and was inducted into the College Key as a senior. After 乐播传媒, he earned a master鈥檚 in business administration in 1986 from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

The father of three children, including two recent 乐播传媒 alumni, Bradford Casey Gillespie 鈥�13 and Lucas Gillespie 鈥�18, Gillespie has demonstrated his dedication to his alma mater through a long history of active alumni service. As an alumni volunteer, he has served on Reunion gift committees, hosted dialogue dinners, delivered keynote addresses to alumni and parent gatherings, and counseled students as a career adviser. As a co-chair of the 乐播传媒 Campaign, he has participated in all aspects of advancement programming with alumni, parents, and friends of the college.

In 1997, Gillespie founded Prospector Partners LLC, an equity investment advisory business for corporations, foundations, endowments, and individuals. He is also the president of Prospector Funds Inc., a mutual fund firm affiliated with Prospector Partners.

Before forming Prospector, Gillespie was a vice president at T. Rowe Price Associates and served as president of the T. Rowe Price Growth Stock Fund and of the New Age Media Fund. Previously he was a senior financial analyst at GEICO Corporation.

Gillespie鈥檚 board service outside 乐播传媒 includes time as deputy chairman of White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd., and directorships at such firms as Montpelier Re, Esurance, OneBeacon Insurance, and Symetra. He served as a trustee of Pomfret School from 2010 to 2015 and was treasurer there from 2013 to 2015.

乐播传媒 College today announced the election of Evelynn Hammonds, L.H.D 鈥�11 to its Board of Trustees. Hammonds is the Barbara Gutmann Rosenkrantz Professor of the History of Science, professor of African and African American studies, and chair of the Department of the History of Science at Harvard University.

鈥淚 am thrilled to welcome Evelynn Hammonds to the 乐播传媒 board,鈥� said Chair Michael Bonney 鈥�80, P鈥�09, P鈥�12, P鈥�15. 鈥淓velynn is an accomplished academic leader, a distinguished scholar, and a recognized expert on issues related to race, gender, and science. She will add a uniquely powerful perspective to the work of the board.鈥�

鈥淚 am very pleased to be joining the 乐播传媒 trustees,鈥� said Hammonds. 鈥淚 have long been aware of 乐播传媒鈥� distinctive history and strong commitment to sustaining a college and community dedicated to academic rigor and inclusive excellence. At Harvard, Hammonds is also the director of the Program in Race & Gender in Science & Medicine at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research. She previously held senior academic leadership positions at Harvard, including dean of the college and senior vice provost for faculty development and diversity.

Focusing on the intersection of scientific, medical, and sociopolitical concepts of race in the U.S., Hammonds is an internationally known scholar on issues related to women of color in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In 2017, she was appointed to the Committee on Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.

She is the author of Childhood鈥檚 Deadly Scourge: The Campaign to Control Diphtheria in New York City, 1880鈥�1930 (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1999) and numerous scholarly articles. Hammonds is the co-editor of The Nature of Difference: Sciences of Race in the United States from Jefferson to Genomics (MIT Press, 2008) with Rebecca Herzig, professor of gender and sexuality studies at 乐播传媒.

Hammonds was named a Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer (2003鈥�05) by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. She has been a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin and a fellow in the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J.

Hammonds earned a doctorate at Harvard in the Department of the History of Science, a master鈥檚 in physics from MIT, a bachelor鈥檚 degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in physics from Spelman College.

In 2011, she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from 乐播传媒 for her 鈥渋nformed hopefulness and critical brilliance, twin qualities of leadership that encourage us all as we strive for greater social justice in our society and world.鈥� She was also a Commencement speaker that year.

In 2015, Hammonds returned to the 乐播传媒 campus to at the 乐播传媒-hosted Creating Connections Consortium Summit, speaking on “Creating an Inclusive Academy in the 21st Century.”

• Judith Burns Miller 鈥�91, managing director and chief of staff to the chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co.;
• Emma Sprague 鈥�10, director of The Franklin Forum, a political communications firm.

David and Emma are both active and visible young alumni leaders who will add significant value to the board鈥檚 efforts.鈥�

Longdon鈥檚 and Sprague鈥檚 elections as young alumni trustees are the first such appointments in recent 乐播传媒 history and were a response to the board鈥檚 desire to better understand the perspectives of recent graduates and to gain input on communication, engagement and volunteer strategies.

David W. Longdon III 鈥�14

Longdon is an investment banking analyst at Barclays in New York City where he interned as a junior before joining the firm after graduation. Prior to 乐播传媒, Longdon spent most of his life in Ghana and the United Kingdom.

At 乐播传媒, he majored in economics and French and minored in mathematics. As a Harward Summer Student Fellow he served as a leadership intern with Lots to Gardens, a youth-focused organization in Lewiston run by St. Mary鈥檚 Nutrition Center that turns vacant urban lots into community gardens. He was also awarded the Stangle Grant for Economics & Law to conduct research in Ghana on the feasibility of a microfinance project for low-income farmers. While at 乐播传媒, Longdon was a member of the Africana Club, the International Club, Sankofa, the 乐播传媒 College Investment Club, and the Senior Gift Committee.

Since graduation, Longdon has engaged with college programs, hosting 乐播传媒 Alumni Mosaic events and working with the 乐播传媒 Career Development Center to organize informational/recruiting sessions on campus. Outside the 乐播传媒 community, Longdon volunteers with iMentor, a program that creates mentoring relationships to empower first-generation high-school students to graduate, succeed in college, and achieve their aspirations.

Judith Burns Miller

Judith Burns Miller 鈥�91

Miller is a managing director and chief of staff at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where she oversees internal and external communications for CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon. Miller had previously been a marketing and communications executive and media spokesperson for the company. Prior to joining JPMorgan in 1997, Miller was a publicity specialist in the publishing industry, most recently at Putnam Publishers.

At 乐播传媒, Miller majored in English and was captain of the women’s tennis team. Miller and her husband, Greg 鈥�88, have been active in alumni and college programs, hosting events and participating in class reunions and presidential events in New York City. Miller has been a career adviser to 乐播传媒 students through the Career Development Center and an enthusiastic fan at recent athletic events in support of her nephew, Steven Hild 鈥�15.

The Millers live in Old Greenwich, Conn., with their two teenagers, Claire and Kevin.

Emma Sprague

Emma Sprague 鈥�10

Sprague is the director of The Franklin Forum, a Washington, D.C-based organization that provides media, public speaking, and communications training to progressive advocates, candidates, and pundits. Her team was highly engaged with the 2016 elections 鈥� coaching leaders in 20 states and all of the speakers at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Sprague is also a consultant with KNP Communications, which extends the same strategic communications training to other sectors.

Sprague graduated from 乐播传媒 cum laude with a degree in art and visual culture and a minor in economics. At 乐播传媒, she was active in the Admission office and Peer Writing Center, 聽and was a member of the Strange Bedfellows improv comedy group. Sprague received the 2012 乐播传媒鈥� Best Award and 2015 Distinguished Young Alumni Award for her passion and commitment to 乐播传媒 and her leadership and organization in the BOLD (Bobcats of the Last Decade) community.

A member of the Alumni Council since 2013, Sprague has remained closely involved with campus and served as the council鈥檚 liaison to the Communications and Marketing Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Sprague lives in Washington, D.C.
