1929 乐播传媒 baseball championship charm: $75

As often happened back then, the baseball team winning its second straight Maine title, in 1929, led to all hell breaking loose: A parade down College Street into Lewiston, then a bonfire atop Mount David. And players ” (No size is indicated on the item.)

That’s Roy Glendal Cascadden ’30, the team’s rightfielder, who was good hit, no field, according to the newspapers. “Roy Cascadden’s fly-catching ability won’t make the sticky-paper manufacturers have nightmares, but he can more than ply the wagon-tongue.”

“Wagon tongue” is a baseball bat, so named because early bat makers used wagon parts to make bats. The tongue of a wagon is the cylinder that helps to connect a wagon to the horsepower.

1966 乐播传媒 vs. AIC football program: $16.50

This is the for the 乐播传媒 vs. AIC game at Garcelon Field. Really.

Today, football programs are designed by the home team, and feature photographs.

But during much of the 1900s, covers were illustrations, and sometimes generic, provided by the printer. By the 1960s, photorealism was blending with experimentation (if yet outright psychedelia) with the bursts of color seen on this cover.

Mom jeans. Some big hair. Lots of colorful T-shirts. It’s the early 鈥�90s at 乐播传媒 鈥� and the perfect cover for , featuring tracks like Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” and ABBA’s “Take a Chance on Me.”

The photo shoot was done in Auburn aboard a freight engine from the Boston & Maine Railroad. And the photographer? None other than the beloved faculty member Gene Clough, who died last fall.

The Meris’ outfits were “a visual nod to our concert dress,” explains Sheila Brennan ’94, featuring “a black skirt with a brightly colored camp shirt (singer鈥檚 choice) that were easily acquired and in the Auburn Mall.”

Co-founded and directed by Erik Bertelsen ’72 for more than two decades, the camp brought nearly 8,000 campers to the 乐播传媒 campus from the 1980s into the early 2000s.

乐播传媒 basketball tournament medal: $24.00

This , a high school basketball tourney sponsored by 乐播传媒.

It’s high school tournament time in Maine, a good time to note that 乐播传媒 founded “schoolboy basketball’s annual grand finale,” as it was once described.

In 1922, 乐播传媒鈥� promotions-minded athletics director, Carl H. Smith, invited eight schoolboy teams to Lewiston to compete for the first statewide high school hoops title. By the 1930s, the 乐播传媒 Tournament was a regional competition for teams from Western Maine.

In 1936, the Maine Principals’ Association assumed oversight of the state tournament, which it holds to this day.

Postcard showing Olin Arts Center and Lake Andrews: $6.99

At any given time, there are several hundred vintage 乐播传媒-related postcards on eBay. Sometimes, it鈥檚 fun to look at them just to see how the campus has changed. This prior to its major 1998 restoration.

The postcard shows only sparse vegetation around the pond, but the restoration changed that by adding lots of additional aquatic and terrestrial plantings to help filter sediments and nutrients from campus runoff, which were causing serious algae blooms.

The pathway around the pond was moved back from the shoreline and improved. A granite amphitheater was created at the base of Olin, now a popular and sunny spot for events, gatherings, and just hanging out.

Much of the 1998 restoration was funded by the late Jack Keigwin 鈥�59 and his wife, Beverly. The amphitheater is named for Florence Keigwin, an aunt who helped to raise Jack Keigwin after he was orphaned. Keigwin died on Sept. 24, 2024, at age 86.

Class of 1925 watch fob pendant: $41.97

This , celebrates the 乐播传媒 Class of 1925 and was perhaps given out at a class Reunion. In the days of pocket watches, a pendant like this would ornament one’s watch chain.

The reverse has a name: Daniel Franklin Downs. While we don鈥檛 know if the pendant belonged to Downs, we know he attended 乐播传媒 for a year and, later in life, became an ordained Baptist minister and was active in prison ministries in Maine.

1930 Commencement Ball dance card: $30

The saying 鈥渙ne鈥檚 dance card is full鈥� has a tangible meaning. Back in the day, attendees of a formal dance would receive a .

Dance cards typically included things like the date, place, and time of the dance, plus the name of the band and the types of dances offered. Importantly, it provided space to write the names of one鈥檚 dance partner for each song.

At the Class of 1930 Commencement Ball, the band was the Georgians, a nine-member dance orchestra; the location was Chase Hall; and the dances were waltzes and foxtrots. The dance went from 9 p.m. all the way until 3 a.m.!

1931 乐播传媒 basketball medal: $59

This 乐播传媒 basketball medal was not awarded to a 乐播传媒 student but to high school athletes competing in the 1931 乐播传媒 Interscholastic Basketball Tournament. Founded in 1922, the 乐播传媒-hosted tournament evolved into today鈥檚 very popular Maine high school basketball tournament.

The medal comes in its original box, and was made by the Robbins Co. of Attleboro, Mass., once well-known for producing badges, medals, and brewery tap markers.

乐播传媒 Manufacturing Co. cotton label: $29.99

The Lewiston mills established by Benjamin 乐播传媒, who founded 乐播传媒, produced various textiles and cotton goods, including knitting cotton.

(4 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches) assures buyers that the cotton being sold is guaranteed to weigh a full, honest pound 鈥� no short-changing.

Ceramic drinking stein: $32.50

The seller of this ceramic stein claims it鈥檚 鈥渓ikely 1960s or earlier,鈥� but Bobcats know that a seal with the 1855 founding date has to be from after 1988 or so.

Around that time, President Hedley Reynolds, an historian, requested that 乐播传媒 use 1855 as its founding date, the year that the Maine State Seminary was chartered, rather than the year the institution became a college (1864).

1960 Deansmen album: $24.95

The , and its liner notes say the a cappella group鈥檚 history has been 鈥渂rief but 鈥榤erri-ful.鈥欌��

First organized in 1957 as the Hi-Hos, the group had cut one previous album, but it was only for private use. Just 10 copies were made.

The songs on the album, cut by RCA, include standards like 鈥淏lue Moon,” newly popular tunes like 1959’s “Climb Every Mountain,” as well as college and 乐播传媒 songs like “The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi” and 鈥淭he 乐播传媒 Smoker.鈥� It also featured the African American spiritual “Ezekiel Saw the Wheel.”

On Etsy, , suggests that 鈥測ou are looking at a vintage rayon basketball jersey made for 乐播传媒 College, circa late 1930s into the early 1940s.鈥�

However, based on 乐播传媒 yearbooks, the singlet (which doesn’t have a number on the reverse) is probably a track uniform of the post-World War II era, likely from the early 1950s, based on this 1952 Mirror photo of track coach C. Ray Thompson and his runners.

The 乐播传媒 Bobcat, looking more like a werewolf, is featuring 12 charms. Colby and Bowdoin are also included, as are a lobster, moose, the state seal, and Sugarloaf Mountain.

1905 chemistry notebook

Mary Alice Lincoln, Class of 1905, was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate, and this is said to be her handwritten at 乐播传媒.

She taught school before marrying Arthur Hale and raising a family.

Wedgwood cup and saucer

Nothing says Wedgwood like Wedgwood. This to 1949. A decade before, 乐播传媒鈥� first Wedgwood offering, a plate, was commissioned by the Boston 乐播传媒 Alumnae Club to celebrate 75 years of 乐播传媒 being a college.

乐播传媒 Bedspread

While it’s not from 乐播传媒 College, this item helped propel the 乐播传媒 name into national view in the mid-1900s: the wildly popular “听manufactured in Lewiston by the 乐播传媒 Manufacturing Co.

During World War II, The 乐播传媒 Student editorial leadership (editor, managing editor, associate editors, business manager, and circulation manager) were all women, so from 1945 is distinctive in that regard.

Appropriately, one of the featured issues in this sale has a cover story about the launching of the S.S. 乐播传媒 Victory in Wilmington, Calif., on May 2, christened by noted alumna Dora Shaw Heffner, Class of 1906.
