Although another passage in this article suggested otherwise, this sentence might be read to suggest that those without the privilege of a higher education who have not had the opportunity to think critically about the value of democracy should not be included in discussions. I believe the contrary: we need to know more about the needs and concerns of people who seem left behind by our educational system and find ways to engage in sincere, level conversations in order to understand our common humanity.
