This is very sad news. I served with Sue for years on the Ford Foundation. She was always the intellectual giant in the room as well as the conscience. May her soul rest in peace and enjoy the reward she most justifiably deserves.

What a world-benefitting legacy she left. Look at her resume, her focus on helping others, the less fortunate, her wide ranging vision, her focus, a helping and directive expertise and unbounded wisdom and faith. Truly, a progressive thinker and a credit to humankind. A good life, lived strongly.

Sue’s scholarship was matched only by her deep compassion for her students.

I knew Dr. Houchins when I was a student at Claremont Graduate School, and was able to re-connect with her when we both ended up in Lewiston. An wonderful woman; smart, kind, funny and generous. She will be missed.
