Cobb was an actor of stage, film, and television known for his Broadway work as well as having the lead role in the Western series The Virginian.<\/em> He often played intimidating characters and respectful authority figures. Cobb originated the role of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman<\/em> in 1949 under director Elia Kazan and was praised by writer Arthur Miller on his performance. Cobb was nominated for Academy Awards for On the Waterfront<\/em> and The Brothers Karamazov<\/em> in the 1950s, and also starred in well-known films such as The Exorcist, How the West was Won<\/em>, and 12 Angry Men<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lee J.
