Memories of the Present Past/Memorias del Pasado Presente
This Fall marks the fortieth anniversary of the military coup in Chile鈥攖he 鈥渙ther鈥� September 11鈥攖hat overthrew the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende and initiated a period of state terror throughout Latin America.聽Memories of the Present Past / Memorias del Pasado Presente聽brings together five critically acclaimed films, from previous Global Lens series, that reflect on the contested memories of the past, the reverberations of state repression in everyday life, and the restoration of democracy in the region. The film program coincides with the launch of 乐播传媒鈥檚 Latin American Studies program, and forms part of a series of events to inaugurate this exciting new interdisciplinary major.
