Championships in Site<\/h3>\n

\"\"ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ will host the NCAA Division III Men\u2019s Tennis Championships May 13 through 18 at the Wallach Tennis Center, \u00a0pictured at right. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ hosted the event in 2004 as well, and in between the Bobcats fielded the Division III Men’s Singles Champion, Will Boe-Wiegaard<\/strong> \u201906, when the championships were held at the University of Mary Washington.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ was also chosen to host the 2009 NCAA Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Skiing Championships. This all-division event features an array of schools: liberal arts colleges like ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and Middlebury in the East and Whitman College of Walla Walla, Wash., in the West, as well as state universities like those in Colorado, Utah, and Alaska. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ last hosted the skiing championships in 1999.<\/p>\n

\"\"His Lucky Stars<\/h3>\n

All-NESCAC forward Rob Stockwell<\/strong> \u201907 (“A Win-Win Situation<\/a>,” Spring 2007) is now playing professional basketball in England for the Luna Mansfield Stars, a Division Three team in the English Basketball League, a tier below the top-flight British Basketball League. In a recent October game, Stockwell scored 42 points and hauled down 13 rebounds in the Stars\u2019 77-65 upset road victory over the Division One Durham Wildcats. At the time of his signing in July, the Stars\u2019 director of basketball operations, Martin Shaw, called Stockwell “mightily impressive.”<\/p>\n

Amrit Rupasinghe \u201910 (right) of Colombo,\u00a0Sri Lanka, captured his country\u2019s singles tennis title in August. An amateur, he missed out on a 50,000-rupee payday, or about $445. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ricky Weisskopf<\/strong> \u201908 (“Ricky\u2019s Moments<\/a>,” Fall 2006) of San Salvador, El Salvador, notched the most impressive win of his career at last summer\u2019s Pan Am games by defeating a top-50 professional U.S. player. Also last summer, Weisskopf spent a week in New York City with StreetSquash, a Harlem-based youth enrichment program where Pat Cosquer \u201997 is director of squash. Funded by the College\u2019s George Wigton Scholarship, Weisskopf coached squash and taught astronomy.He’s Aboard<\/p>\n

Rower Andrew Byrnes<\/strong> \u201905 and his Canadian men\u2019s eight team won\u00a0gold at the FISA World Championships on Sept. 2. In his first year as a member of the country\u2019s top boat, Byrnes has six teammates with World Cup, World Championship, or Olympic Games experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
