Francesco Duina is Charles A. Dana Professor of Sociology and European Studies at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College. He was Chair of the Social Sciences Division and a member of the Academic Affairs Council during 2022-2026.

Francesco has held appointments at Harvard University, Copenhagen Business School, and the University of British ColumbiaÌý – where he was Professor and Head of Sociology during 2013-2015, and Honorary Professor from 2015 to 2019.

His research addresses themes in economic sociology, political sociology, and international political economy. His interests focus in particular on:

1. how countries shape and react to the international economy
2. the design and impacts of international economic organizations (especially the EU)
3. how culture, institutions, and the economy interact
4. globalization and de-globalization: nationalism, populism, and social cohesion

Francesco was a partner in the (Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union) for 2020-2024. The initiative was led by Carleton University.

He is currently a member of the for 2026-2034 (funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada). This initiative is led by Carleton University.

Francesco also has contributed chapters to numerous edited volumes.

Francesco is the author of seven books:

(Princeton University Press 2006). The book was translated into Chinese in 2009, and won the American Library Association Award for an Outstanding Academic Book.

Between 2010 and 2015, Francesco was a member of the Editorial Board of theÌýJournal of European Public Policy. Between 2015 and 2018, he served as an Elected Council Member of the American Sociological Association’s Section on Culture.

Over the years, Francesco has held various consulting positions, starting with The Monitor Group (now Monitor Deloitte) from 1996-2008.
