First, registration will occur in two rounds, with two classes selected each round. Second, we will have a tiered approach, with seniors, juniors, sophomores, and then first years selecting classes in that order during the first week of registration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Timing:<\/strong> The advising period begins on October 19. The next day, October 20. Seniors will register Tuesday, October 20, Juniors Wednesday October 21, Sophomores Thursday October 22, and First-years Friday October 23. Registration for round 1 will then be open for the next week. The goal for round 1 is to select two courses. Round 2 starts Tuesday, November 3 and follows a similar process as round 1. Seniors will register on Tuesday November 3, Juniors on Wednesday November 4, Sophomores on Thursday November 5, and First-years on Friday November 6. Open registration will then follow for a week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Add\/Drop: <\/strong>Add\/Drop immediately follows on November 16.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have questions, please see your academic advisor first. Your academic advisor is listed at the top of your Degree Audit; they are also included at the landing page (called \u201cMy Success Network\u201d) at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½Reach.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap  wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"65e08451-a02c-4bf5-87c9-a11c08771a27\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Advising Team Approach<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\" id=\"65e08451-a02c-4bf5-87c9-a11c08771a27\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-fe58e971-6918-4e1f-bfa4-43a6ac8e061e\">ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ utilizes an \u201cAdvising Team\u201d approach whereby each student has a network of support. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/student-affairs\/batesreach\/\">ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½Reach system<\/a>, this network is referred to as \u201cMy Success Network,\u201d and it includes 1) a student\u2019s Academic Advisor, 2) Student Support Advisor, 3) Athletic Coach (if the student is a student-athlete), and 4) all of the student\u2019s faculty instructors during a given semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each first-year student has a set of three advisors&#8211;their Academic Advisor, their Student Support Advisor, and their Junior Advisor&#8211;and each has a different role. The Academic Advisor is most often a student\u2019s First-Year Seminar until the student declares a major. Then the academic advisor is a faculty member in that major field of study (if a student declares two majors, they work with an Academic Advisor in each field of study, and if a student declares a minor, they also have an Academic Advisor in that minor field of study). Here is a bit more information about each role:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Academic Advisor:<\/strong> Until a student declares a major (no later than March 1 of their second year), their pre-major academic advisor is most often their First-Year Seminar instructor. Once a student declares a major, a faculty member within that academic unit becomes their academic advisor. The academic advisor helps students explore the curriculum to discover their interests and to fulfill general education requirements, e.g., 5 Mode of Inquiry credits, Major + 1 (where the \u201c+ 1\u201d can be a second major, a minor, or a Concentration), 3 W credits, 32 total credits toward degree (including 2 short-term courses, each short-term course counts as 0.5 credits).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Student Support Advisor (SSA): <\/strong>The Student Support Advisor supports student success by ensuring they know whom to go to when they need guidance, assistance, or just someone to talk to. Students are assigned a Student Support Advisor prior to their matriculation and remain with their advisor for the duration of their enrollment at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. While your pre-major academic advisor \u2013 who is your First-Year Seminar (FYS) instructor \u2013 provides the primary academic advising for students, Student Support Advisors are an additional point of contact and support for students who have concerns or questions about their academic plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-fe58e971-6918-4e1f-bfa4-43a6ac8e061e\"><strong>Residential Junior Advisor (JA):<\/strong> At ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, all first-year students live within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/housing\/first-year-center\/?_ga=2.222857362.80086513.1654606926-1790716194.1632238542\"><strong>First-Year Centers<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>in the residence halls. Each FYC has an assigned junior advisor (a residential advisor often a sophomore or junior) who serves as a key peer resource to assist students in navigating opportunities at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. Most common questions about residence life at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, e.g., housing accommodation, roommate information, etc., are answered at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/housing\/\"><strong>Office of Residence Life and Health Education website<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-fe58e971-6918-4e1f-bfa4-43a6ac8e061e\"><strong>Writing Course-Attached Tutor (W-CAT): <\/strong>At ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, all first-year students enroll in a First-Year Seminar (FYS) during their Fall semester. Each FYS includes a peer writing tutor, who is a sophomore, junior, or senior who serves as a key resource to assist students in developing their writing and communication skills within the FYS. First-year students can meet with their FYS W-CAT throughout the Fall semester to review FYS assignments with them as well as to get assistance on the First-Year Experience Workshops, which are tethered to the FYS<strong>. <\/strong>The W-CATs are part of the student staff at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/student-writing-language-center\/\"><strong>Student Writing and Language Center<\/strong><\/a>, which is part of the Peer Learning Commons. The Peer Learning Commons is on the Ground Level of Ladd Library.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap  wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"btn-action\" id=\"student-support-resources\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"4f5253de-cb44-42af-ad40-305689b19c36\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Student Support Resources<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\" id=\"4f5253de-cb44-42af-ad40-305689b19c36\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Campus Map<\/strong>.
