Working at research sites on remote islands and in Central America, the Middle East, and New Zealand, he has explored how evolution shapes host-parasite interactions and animal behavior. His research on wild animal populations sometimes conveniently intersects with his love of trail running, whitewater kayaking, and mountain biking.
